Periodontic

Have you recently eradicated gingivitis or periodontal disease from your mouth and gums?

If so, then you are feeling good about your mouth and gums. Your teeth have no plaque and tartar and you won’t need to visit your dentist again for another year, right?

SO TRUE !
Many patients are not aware that periodontal maintenance can be done less often than previously directed. Periodontal maintenance is regularly performed at certain intervals after procedures such as scaling and root planing based upon what your hygienist or dentist find . Periodontal maintenance includes the removal of plaque and tartar, scaling and tooth planing and polishing but most importantly is looking for changes in your health which we can detect now by increased bleeding in your gums ONCE you have the routine of keeping your teeth super clean at home with a couple of easy changes.  If your mouth is at this new level of clean , but your gums still bleed, then we are know your immune response if off, and we can refer you to a MD to check for underlying causes such as diabetes or immune  suppression.

So do a few easy new things at home and the positive changes mean you will only come in one time per year.  The bonus is that a healed mouth means less inflammatory burden on your body, from bad bacteria , so your OVERALL health improves. Gum health and OVERALL health is bi-directional. If you have a great anti-inflammatory  diet of no modern foods , low carb and quality fats like avocados and olive oil, and eating fish probably helps, nuts, cheese and really no grains,  you will have less inflammation and most likely no bleeding in your mouth... and your OVERALL health and resistance to disease will be very good. This diet makes healthier gut bacteria that also makes chemicals that apparantly enhance your cognition and resistance to diseases. Now how good is that?

People ask us about exercise, Dr. Shpak is a coach with Mark Sisson's institute, and she says "yes walk lots, do short sprints one time per week, but you CANNOT outrun a bad diet."

So Great health is great mouth, great mouth helps great health.

This coming less often is also scientifically proven and is a new international standard.  Now how good is that.    So  most important thing performed for you is not the cleaning but the assessment to look for these hidden subtle changes and improvements, and the coaching on how to make your gums healthier with a few home care tips.

So the easy homecare tips:  to transform your mouth and health  get a sonicare toothbrush  and a waterpik.  Most importantly, make a mouthwash with 1/4 teaspoon of bleach in one cup of water ( think swimming pool, totally safe as just swishing with it for 30 seconds 2 times per week, we are all doing Sunday and Wednesday nites) This rinse will transform the family of bacteria  to one that is found in healthy mouths. The idea is to have healthy gums that act as a tight seal around the teeth to lock out viruses! Turns out they are the culprits who affect our organs longterm. So healthy gums means a healthier you!  Nice!
